The latest statistics on teen-age drinking are startling: A 1997 national study of teen-age students revealed that 54 percent of eighth graders, 72 percent of 10th graders and 82 percent of 12th graders had consumed alcohol, and more than a third of 12th graders had been drunk at least once.
